Josh Duek – Sit Ski Backflip

[YouTubeUlar] <— 313,448

Back in 2004, a flip on skis gone tragically wrong broke Josh Dueck’s back and left him as a T11 — full paraplegic. For the past 8 years one of his dreams has been to do a flip on snow again. On February 3, 2012, Josh became the first person to perform a backflip on snow in a Sit Ski!

Sarah Burke – Winter X Games 2012 Tribute

[YouTubeYouTube] <— 9,399

“The brave do not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all”

There is a pure, unadulterated joy we all experience when we do something we love.

An infectious happiness that is impossible to deny.

Sarah Burke learned that at an early age, and would spend all of her energy trying to teach the rest of us.

Her triumphs on skis always brought us to her our feet.

Her willingness to help competitors defied our expectations. Her determination to grow her sport took it to new heights, and brought us along for the ride. And her smile, her smile could brighten even our darkest hour.

In her 29 years, Sarah taught us many things: How to persevere, how to overcome, how to succeed.

But Sarah’s true lesson and her greatest gift was showing us all… how to live.

Kelly Sildaru – Freestyle Skiing Progression

[Vimeeeeo] <— 39,000

The future of women's freeskiing just popped up in the form of 10 year old Kelly Sildaru.. And where was this facility when I was a growing up?

Who wants to open a freestyle training facility like this here in Denver? We weren’t allowed to play play play like this in gymnastics as a kid. We’ll call it Scorphy Raddogs.

Prayers for Sarah Burke

Social networking informed me of another very unfortunate accident in skiing this evening. I have been obtaining information on Sarah Burke’s half pipe accident this afternoon at Park City and will hopefully know more soon. My prayers go out to Sarah and her family and our entire industry that continues to evolve at insane levels. The severity of Sarah’s injuries is unknown, but as Kristi Leskinen states… “The situation is very serious”.

Danny Toumarkine – Moving Forward

[YouTube] <— 48,445

Moving forward from a traumatic brain injury, I'm looking forward to seeing the entire film.

“On January 3rd, 2011 Danny Toumarkine took a horrible fall while snowboarding in Montana. Danny was care flighted to a local hospital where he spent the next 33 days. During his time at the hospital Danny underwent 4 brain surgeries as a result of impact trauma to the left side of his head. Danny is very lucky to be alive.

This video is a trailer to the full length video which will be released on January 10th, 2012. It documents the time before and after the injury and will come out a week after Danny’s return to the snow.”

Colin Bane — Kevin Pearce Rides Again

“Pearce said his injury and the intense recovery process have taught him more than he ever hoped to know about traumatic brain injuries. “I think the most important thing that I can share with folks about traumatic brain injuries is that your brain never stops healing,” he said. “You can heal as much as you want as long as you keep your mind to it and work hard. I think it’s really hard for a lot of kids because they think they’re in such bad shape that they just give up, and that’s been the most important lesson for me: It’s hard and it takes a lot of work but you can heal.”

Welcome back to the mountain Kevin Pearce. Great work on the article Colin Bane.

“I used to take this for granted… I used to be on this lift and be like — gosh why is this lift so slow, get me to the top — and now its just nice to be up here. Be up here hang in’”

A look back at Poor Boys Productions 2008 feature film Revolver — This gets me excited for snow to really start falling.

JP Auclair – All.I.Can

[Vimeeeee-Oh-Yeah!] <— 68,500

Finally able to watch JP Auclair's incredible urban segment in All.I.Can. When watching this film live in a theater - this was definitely a crowd pleaser and definitely one of the most entertaining skiing segments I have seen in quite some time.

Strong work JP.

Email reply from JP on December 5th, 2011 —

“Yeah.. pretty nuts.. the thing is going to hit 400K within the first week.. The Sherpas and I are still trying to wrap our heads around why it caught on like that. Must be the back flip, can’t go wrong with a backie!”

JP Auclair – Alpine Initiatives – Inspire

[Vimeeeeeo] <— 3,256

A year ago I challenged JP Auclair to take the time and make a show reel that encapsulates what Alpine Initiatives does for the launch of their new website.

It's a difficult task - because to make something great takes a lot of time and organization... all while you are super busy doing other things — and JP is always busy doing other things.

Las week the new AI Site launched with this video as their visual point.

Congratulations JP. You have inspired. Now it is time to connect and grow. In the coming month we will announce a partnership between Alpine Initiatives and Blackbox Case that will continue this exploration.

“One initiative begets 10,000 initiatives”
