HYDLE – It’s Story Time

[iDevice Link] <— 21,510 In November of 2010 I had the opportunity to road trip to Lubbock, Texas to tell a story about a west texas piano player who goes by the name of Doug Smith. My only introduction to Doug prior to engaging with him at his home in Petersburg, Texas was this video above... and a minor tour through his music library from the iPod on the road trip down. Doug was injured in a car accident in 2007 while driving home from his studio late one evening on a two lane rural Texas road. Hey lay upside down for 3 hours with a broken neck before he was found and ultimately transferred to Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colorado to continue his rehabilitation back to the piano. As you will see in these future posts about this life changing trip to the cotton fields of west Texas, Doug Smith has since returned to the studio in a new musical form.

“You don’t need hands to play a piano… you don’t need legs either. You just need a will in your heart.”

Look for the release of Doug Smith’s first post injury album to be hit the shelves shortly after the 10th annual Craig Hospital PUSH Dinner on March 3rd, 2011 – where you will also get to view this completed video project.

BHTM 2008 to 2010 Recap

[iPhone Link]

I somehow popped backstage last night at BHTM 2010 Live at Red Rocks without ever having a ticket. It was a good show – with sun, rain, a torrential downpour and meeting new friends — but nothing compares to the 06/07/08 four hour live recording dvd show.

From me to you… enjoy the adventure.
Rock on.

From last night:

Aerosmith – back on the road

July 23-Sept. 4
Tickets TBA
Openers Sammy Hagar and the Wabos, J. Geils Band

Aerosmith’s summer ’09 tour was one of the most ill-fated in the band’s colorful career: the band was struck by severe injuries and nearly lost Steven Tyler. But the mended Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are taking their explosive show back on the road again this summer, including a sold-out homecoming show at Fenway with J. Geils Band.

My only question is – how in the hell does Steven Tyler keep moving?

He’s popping 62 years, has overcome both a heroin addiction from the 80s and a pain killer addiction from 2009 — he is older then both of my parents and yet somehow still keeps the show alive. What in the hell are they putting in his water?

This will be his 26th concert tour – Unbelievable.

UPDATE – John Teas on Ellen Tuesday

I watched this once … and laughed.
Watched it again… and laughed even more.

I can’t figure out why I’m laughing? But this kid John Teas is pretty entertaining.

I don’t know if it’s his amazing double grip on the mic… or the pinned feet and body twitch on the major beats of the song (watch 1:13-1:20) – But something sets this amateur video apart from the rest.

I do know John is local to the Denver area and he apparently has a large set of pipes in his second grade body. Combined with moms lackluster camera work and a completely clueless grand finish – this video has it all. Plus Journey doesn’t suck either.

Nice work John Teas and Mom.

Innocence Rules.

The Who (Remixed)

Watching The Who play during the Super Bowl XLIV halftime show inspired me to do two things.

1 – Play Rockband again.
2 – Share a song with you.

Hydle – Baba O’Riley – The Who Tribute Remix
Hydle – The White Stripes – Seven Nation Army

This track is from 2002. I gave my brother a shanky computer (it was beige) and he went to town with a free single track sound editor called Amadeus – which has since been developed on.

What still amazing me to this day… is how my brother was able to figure out how to time out and create these effects (using paste over!) and beats to rearrange and remix this famous song into how he always imagined it should have been.

I simply wish Jeremy Hydle was still playing with music. Genius.

Enjoy Cuz.
