Audi A3 – Grandpa Bode Miller – Out of Control

[YouTubeUlar] <— 203

Genius.

Although I believe the Audi A3 is actually the first car from Audi that signifies the beginning of the downfall of sexy design from my favorite German auto manufacturer… I still love this car and especially love this commercial. Let me say it again… Bode Miller + Out of Control + Audi quattro = Genius.

For those of you new to my idealistic and very passionate representation of brands and technology here at hydle.com – I’ve been a major fan of Audi since the mid 1990s, bought my first Audi in 2003 (a 1997 A4 that now has 234,000 miles + counting) and picked up a 2013 S4 supercharged quattro just this past year. The original Audi quattro changed the automotive world. Similar to Apple releasing the macintosh in 1984… what Audi was doing in 1984 also took hold as the single most important development in the auto industry that would change my life down the road.

No pun intended… haha – It is hard to explain the difference of All Wheel Drive vs. 4 Wheel Drive vs. Audi quattro. I would gladly show you if you want to take a ride to the hills in our next snowstorm, but if you must read – start here. Or if you want to get your motion picture view on – go here.

Now, back to the beginning of the design downfall. How long does it take for a brand to lose it’s leadership in design? Well, let’s look at how long it takes to “build good design”, also known as “brand” an idea. It took an entire decade to build quattro and two decades to design and build the image of Audi around quattro. It can take decades to build something great… and design something that ultimately takes hold and is respected as a product leader, but in the end… I would have to say you can lose it much faster then it takes to build it.

Audi lost one of their key designers, Peter Schreyer to KIA back in 2006 and it is starting to take effect now. Peter Schreyer, who is now the President and Chief Design Officer of Hyundai and Kia Motors was brought into that company with a completely blank design slate… and look what he has done. I won’t be the first one to admit that I’ve double checked a few KIA models in the last two years, but what he is doing at KIA is working… and what Audi is doing is starting to slide. It may not be a big slide, and I certainly hope Audi hasn’t quite reached it’s peak in design, but remember… you lose it a lot faster than you build it. I hope Apple, my other lifelong power brand realizes this.

Ultimately Audi could lose all their design luster… and I would still drive one simply because there is zero comparison for quattro and there probably never will be. Obviously Audi is part of a larger Volkswagen Automotive Group, but who drives those? Volkswagen’s are for girls. Škoda‘s are for Russians… and SEAT‘s… ummm, no – don’t even get me started. SEAT’s are for chinese mexicans… but that is what they said about KIA’s before Peter Schreyer started design cars for them.

Perhaps I could graduate to a Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini or Porsche in the future years… but I highly doubt I will ever find the passion of owning and talking positively about these brands. KIA on the other hand … hmmmmm?

[YouTubeUlar] <— 247,624 Ho Hey (feat. Lennon Stella & Maisy Stella) – Ho Hey (feat. Lennon Stella & Maisy Stella) – Single

Last week on ABC’s “Nashville” episode 16, Rayna Jaymes Conrad finally gives into her daughters wish of partying like rock stars and allows them to perform a soundcheck for her. Maddie and Daphne (played by Lennon & Maisy Stella) perform this adorable cover of “Ho Hey” by the Lumineers and instantly give replay credit to their 2012 smashing hit.

Ho Hey – Single – The Lumineers

If you don’t believe these girls are for real, as I didn’t… I suggest you watch this live performance of the two covering the same song last week at 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville, Tennessee.

The real life Lennon and Maisy Stella are indeed the real thing. They are real sisters from Canada who grew up on a farm without internet and television and nearly play the same age characters in “Nashville” as they are in real life. Lennon Stella (13 years old) and Maisy Stella (8 years old) made themselves famous last May with this instant YouTube hit video [15,507,340 views] performing their unique version of Robyn’s ‘Call Your Girlfriend’ [3,764,522 views].

In real life, Lennon & Maisy’s parents are real musicians performing as “The Stellas” and moved to Nashville in 2009. They won a 2012 Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) award for music video of the year for their song “In This House”. Lennon & Maisy are featured in the video and can be seen growing up in the Stellas new song “Riding in the Back Seat” [159,698] music video.

In Episode 3 of “Nashville”, Lennon and Maisy perform a cover of Juliette Barnes’ (Hayden Panettiere) “Telescope” [160,475] during a school talent show which hinted at their future talent ability for the future of the show. Rumor has it, they were signed to appear on “Nashville” before they made themselves famous on the interManets.

I Love Awesomeness – Bubba Watson on Dave Letterman

[YouTubeUlar] <— 107,277 While paying my State Farm semi-annual home insurance policy today and describing the rules behind ILA's first golf event "The Gong" ... my agent Scott Bristol simply asked me if I caught Bubba Watson on David Letterman the other night. To which he stated “It was awesome.”

Since I Love Awesomeness I had to check it out… and Scott – you were right.

At 3:20 Dave Letterman – who knows absolutely nothing about golf… asks Bubba how he would describe his personal approach to golf?

Bubba simply states…

“Pppppft – Awesome”

David later asks…

“Having won, probably the most treasured major… does this take pressure off a golfer, or put pressure on a golfer? What does this do to Bubba golf? Will you continue to be awesome? – I guess is what I am trying to say.”

Tosh.0 — Hermosa Beach Marathon

[ComedyCentral] <— 145,777 I can't say that I watch much Tosh.0... but this is great. Lots of motivation coming from many places with this little clip. Plus it makes me miss Hermosa Beach at it's finest.

Super Bowl Advertisement Rankings

I haven’t concluded my super bowl ad recap yet, but as usual… rankings are coming in from all over.

Animal Ads Resonate with Viewers
The overall number one ad with viewers (overall score of about 72.3) was “Saluting Beaver” from Bridgestone, featuring a motorist who is able to avoid hitting a beaver and then plunging into a river thanks to tire traction (and a little rodent-supplied assistance). “Saluting Beaver” scored first in both emotion ranking (evoking most possible positive and least possible negative emotions) and water cooler ranking (likelihood of participants discussing the ad at the water cooler the next day), and third in interest ranking (how well it held the interest of viewers).

Meanwhile, the self-explanatory “Dog Party” ad from Bud Light, which came in third overall, ranked first in viewer interest.

Automotive Ads Take Three Top 10 Spots
Three of the top 10 ads, including the number one ad, were for autos or automotive products. Two ads were for snack food, and one ad promoted a product in each of the following five categories: the NFL, beer, film, soda, and online portal.

Excellent quick informative and simple. 72andSunny nails it with this quickly consumable campaign. Using Kenny Powers to full success and a light cross promotion with season 2 of East Bound and Down – The simple microsite sold me on these shoes and I now want a pair of tubes.

Bad vibe on the busted facebook link but excellent use of 1-888-WITH-TUBES-I-WILL-TRAIN-THE-F-OUT for a creative 10% off coupon.

UPDATE – John Teas on Ellen Tuesday

I watched this once … and laughed.
Watched it again… and laughed even more.

I can’t figure out why I’m laughing? But this kid John Teas is pretty entertaining.

I don’t know if it’s his amazing double grip on the mic… or the pinned feet and body twitch on the major beats of the song (watch 1:13-1:20) – But something sets this amateur video apart from the rest.

I do know John is local to the Denver area and he apparently has a large set of pipes in his second grade body. Combined with moms lackluster camera work and a completely clueless grand finish – this video has it all. Plus Journey doesn’t suck either.

Nice work John Teas and Mom.

Innocence Rules.

Insane Clown Posse – Triple Whammy

MattMatt sent me this … I laughed. Partly because it was a double wammy in marketing efforts – and now – it just turned into a triple wammy.

Let me explain.

Have you ever been driving down the road listening to the radio and lets say a Coors Light advertisement comes on the air… and at or near that very same time you pass a Coors Light billboard – Or maybe your following a Coors Light truck, or drinking a Coors Light (not recommended while driving). If you realize both instances and actually process what just happened, then chances are you were just double whammed.

In this case – I was triple whammed by the Insane Clown Posse.

1st – A surprise appearance by Violent Jay at a Hoodlum event.
2nd – MattMatt sends me the Miracles music video.
Triple – Saturday Night Live spoofs it.

Bang Pow Boom – now it all makes sense. Just don’t forget that these guys never graduated from high school.

Insane Clown Posse – Miracles

SNL – ICP Parody Spoof – Magical Mysteries

[iTunes – ICP – Miracles]

Insane Clown Posse – Miracles – Lyrics:

If magic is all we’ve ever know
Then it’s easy to miss what really goes on
But I’ve seen miracles in every way
And I see miracles everyday
Oceans spanning beyond my sight
And a million stars way above em at night
We don’t have to be high to look in the sky
And know that’s a miracle opened wide
Look at the mountains, trees, the seven seas
And everything chilling underwater, please
Hot lava, snow, rain and fog
Long neck giraffes, and pet cats and dogs
And I’ve seen eighty-five thousand people
All in one room, together as equals
Pure magic is the birth of my kids
I’ve seen shit that’ll shock your eyelids
The sun and the moon, and even Mars
The Milky Way and fucking shooting stars
UFOs, a river flows
Plant a little seed and nature grows
Niagara falls and the pyramids
Everything you believed in as kids
Fucking rainbows after it rains
there’s enough miracles here to blow your brains
I fed a fish to a pelican at Frisco bay
It tried to eat my cell phone, he ran away
And music is magic, pure and clean
You can feel it and hear it but it can’t be seen

Music is all magic
(Are you a believer in miracles)
You can’t even hold it
(Do you notice and recognize miracles)
it’s just there in the air
(Are you a believer in miracles)
Pure motherfucking magic Right?
This shit’ll blow your fucking mind
(Do you notice and recognize miracles)

Music is a lot like love, it’s all a feeling
And it fills the room, from the floor to the ceiling
I see miracles all around me
Stop and look around, it’s all astounding
Water, fire, air and dirt
Fucking magnets, how do they work?
And I don’t wanna talk to a scientist
Y’all motherfuckers lying, and getting me pissed
Solar eclipse, and vicious weather
Fifteen thousand Juggalos together
And I love my mom for giving me this
Time on this planet, taking nothing for granted
I seen a caterpillar turn into a butterfly
Miracles ain’t nothing to lie
Shaggy’s little boys look just like Shaggy
And my little boy looks just like daddy
Miracles each and every where you look
And nobody has to stay where they put
This world is yours for you to explore
there’s nothing but miracles beyond your door
The Dark Carnival is your invitation
To witness that without explanation
Take a look at this fine creation
And enjoy it better with appreciation
Crows, ghosts, the midnight coast
The wonders of the world, mysteries the most
Just open your mind, and it ain’t no way
To ignore the miracles of every day

(Are you a believer in miracles)
Magic everywhere in this bitch
(Do you notice and recognize miracles)
it’s all around you, you don’t even know it
(Are you a believer in miracles) Shit’s crazy
(Do you notice and recognize miracles,
So many miracles, the magic miracles)

WORLD NEWS FLASH – The Internet is Larger then the Televisions

According to the latest Infinite Dial study by Arbitron and Edison Research

The internet has surpassed TV as the “most essential” medium.

Wait – read that again. For the first time, the internet surpassed TV as the “most essential” medium.

49% of those studied said they would eliminate the TV over 48% who said they would eliminate the internets. 3% were apparently missing.

In other news – 24% of us have listened to an iPod in an automobile at some point in out lives after we turned older then 12 and 54% of us who own a “portable digital music device” have connected it into our cars.
