August 29th, 2019

Winter Park Alpine Slide Year Number 2 LJ All Day Adventure Day. Taking LJ All Day on adventures like these the are most awesome days of being a dad. Every year gets better and better! I can’t wait for the compilation 10 years from now showing LJ growing up through Alpine Slide adventures :)

If you would like to know the important facts about the Winter Park Alpine Slide, children must be at least 2 years old to ride with an adult. That’s the only important fact to know. Buy the all day adventure pass and pray for no rain. Children 4 and under adventure pass for only $15. The Alpine Slide at Winter Park is Colorado’s longest Alpine Slide dropping 610 vertical feet in over 3,000 feet of track.

Highway 40 Disney Avalanche

2019 winter in the Colorado Rockies was monumental. It had been 62 years since a slide on the Disney avalanche path off Highway 40 had reached the road. The Disney slide path is first major avalanche slide path you reach on your way to Winter Park Resort. It is on the south side of the road just outside of Empire before you hit Berthoud Pass … and to say it lightly – this is a monster slide.

Here is another video that is equally interesting to watch from the Denver Copter 7 on the same day … just turn your volume down.

Looking backwards two years … makes me look forward two years. Downhill mountain biking is really fun, but damn – this is some commitment. Good luck bro! But you can take this one down well well well before me :)

I’ll stick to the Silky Johnson … which just feels ohhhh so nice.

Happy 50 Years Vail

“It was a lifestyle. A totally undefined lifestyle. And you were not judged at all on what you had been, or where you went to school, or whether you had a nickel… or a million bucks. None of it mattered. Everybody was evaluated for what kind of person they were… what kind of sense of humor they had. And it was a given that everybody was there because they loved the mountains.”
– John McBride

Happy 50th anniversary to Vail. I can’t say it you are like nothing else on earth, but I can definitely say that you are unique and I have enjoyed skiing you. Not as much as I have enjoyed skiing and growing up at my home mountain of Winter Park, Colorado – which celebrates 73 years of awesomeness this year – But I certainly am excited to take it down your backside on a hefty powder day.

HYDLE + Godin – Happy Leap Day

While playing in Winter Park with Mom for Leap Year – I came across a nice little email from Seth Godin while relaxing by the fire.

“Leap year meditation

Once in four years, just once, perhaps we could:

Forgive, forget, relax, care, stand out, speak up, contribute, embrace, create, make a ruckus, give credit, skip, smile, speak truth and refuse to compromise–more than we usually do. Pick just one or two and start there.

Hey, it’s just one day.

Careful, though, it might become a habit.”

Thank you for the inspiration you provided us throughout the rest of the day Seth. We had already accomplished most of your meditation techniques… just needed to focus on a little skipping!

Rock on!

I had the ability to adventure Miles Above Ordinary at the C Lazy U Ranch just outside of Granby, Colorado toward the end of last year. What a treat it was to witness the amazing winter activities first hand at this 5-spur rated dude ranch.

Documented Activities:

  • Cat Skiing
  • Tubing
  • Sledding
  • Horseback Riding
  • 5 Star Dining

HYDLE – Skiing Day #1 – (Winter Park Opening Day)

[iDevice Link] <— 0 views. I managed to make it up by 3:00pm for 2 runs and 3 beers. The snow is fantastic and Mary Jane is expected to open on Saturday.

“Warren Miller… for 86 years that man has known what’s up. Get your ass out of the office – pack your car – ride a bus – carpool – get your ass to the mountains.”

Two things to note…
1) Monday – Thursday: Pass holders get $1 off beers (Blue Moon, Mary Jane, Coors Light, Coors O) at the Sunspot Bar and you can get a burger and a beer for $10.

2) Happy hour at the Derailer bar from 2:00pm – 4:00pm is fantastic. Cheap food specials + $2.50 Coors Lights + O’s.

Get your mountains on.
