Back in 2004, a flip on skis gone tragically wrong broke Josh Dueck’s back and left him as a T11 — full paraplegic. For the past 8 years one of his dreams has been to do a flip on snow again. On February 3, 2012, Josh became the first person to perform a backflip on snow in a Sit Ski!

Sarah Burke learned that at an early age, and would spend all of her energy trying to teach the rest of us.

Her triumphs on skis always brought us to her our feet.

Her willingness to help competitors defied our expectations. Her determination to grow her sport took it to new heights, and brought us along for the ride. And her smile, her smile could brighten even our darkest hour.

In her 29 years, Sarah taught us many things: How to persevere, how to overcome, how to succeed.

But Sarah’s true lesson and her greatest gift was showing us all… how to live.

Who wants to open a freestyle training facility like this here in Denver? We weren’t allowed to play play play like this in gymnastics as a kid. We’ll call it Scorphy Raddogs.

Prayers for Sarah Burke

Social networking informed me of another very unfortunate accident in skiing this evening. I have been obtaining information on Sarah Burke’s half pipe accident this afternoon at Park City and will hopefully know more soon. My prayers go out to Sarah and her family and our entire industry that continues to evolve at insane levels. The severity of Sarah’s injuries is unknown, but as Kristi Leskinen states… “The situation is very serious”.

When watching this film live in a theater - this was definitely a crowd pleaser and definitely one of the most entertaining skiing segments I have seen in quite some time. Strong work JP. Email reply from JP on December 5th, 2011 —

“Yeah.. pretty nuts.. the thing is going to hit 400K within the first week.. The Sherpas and I are still trying to wrap our heads around why it caught on like that. Must be the back flip, can’t go wrong with a backie!”

Mountains Are Fun

“Super cool buddies who hopefully love me enough to pimp! As you may know, my 9th full time job is making movies about crazy people. The new trailer for my next crazy people movie is done and we are trying to get a buzz on it.

Greatly appreciate it if you could watch it and if you are so inclined forward it around, post on facebook, tweet, etc.”

Anything you can do to get people to check it out or forward it around, comment on it, etc….greatly appreciated!

A few things before you watch from questions I have gotten from others:

  • The unicyclist is on the edge of a 2500 foot cliff… his tire is a couple inches
  • Simon Dumont travels about 200 feet in the air and reaches an apex of about 100 feet high in the air before touchdown on ice
  • The cliff the ski jumper front flips is 210 feet high
  • The guy jumping over the road is coming from about 100 feet in the air or like jumping off a 10 story building over a road
  • The song is the new single from the band Bush…thank you Gavin!

JP Auclair – Movie Time

I recently exchanged some quick emails with JP Auclair to see what he has been up to. Fall is approaching so I wanted to find out what movies I could expect his involvement in this year.

Below is a quick list of where he has been spending his skiing and editing time.

Sherpas Cinema – All.I.Can

I got involved with the sherpas later on… So , no involvement in the teaser. But I shot with them quite a bit last winter, mostly for a urban segment, we shot it with a slightly different approach then I’d been doing in the past (the seg will be about 4 minutes) I’m pretty excited about it.

And right now I’m trying to help out with the movie as a whole, so I’ve became pretty invested in it. Really cool project!
