HYDLE – Super Bowl Ad Wrap-up

Song – Dream Police – Cheap Trick

I tracked 100 advertisements throughout Super Bowl XLIV and the winner for most creative and overall best executed upon first review is Audi… and this is partly why – Take the challenge. Nice work Paul Venables from Venebles Bell & Partners in San Francisco.

Two other ads that blatantly got me were the Denny’s chickens. The first of 3 Denny’s commercials aired in the 3rd quarter and I perceived it as old, already been done… and not very impressive.

But surprisingly they had two more coming in the 4th quarter from Goodby Silverstein & Partners.

Inspirational

Coca Cola came through with their regular two weirdly inspirational spots by Wieden + Kennedy, Portland. Google made some internet waves and told a story through search. FloTV spent some coin and their Generation advertisement was inspiring to kick off the half time show.

Let Downs

E*Trade babies were back, but not with original voices. Maybe they are growing up. It is very hard to top what they have already accomplished with their babies. So why keep trying.

Doritos should probably quit allowing consumers to make their ads for them.

Go Daddy has nearly almost run its course. Their second ad slightly saved the first… but nothing like they used to be… simply because (lesson to everyone listed above) da da da… it has already been done before.

Additional commercials that got checks in my book. As in – I would like to check them out again are:

The Surprise

Of all brands and commercials that I would never consider as being something I could support… the big surprise this year was this Kia – Sorento ad from David & Goliath, Los Angeles.

Beer

Of the 8 Budweiser and Bud Light related ads that ran… 3 interested me. Asteroid, T-Pain and Lost. All of which were puns off their new “It’s the shear sign of a good time” jingle.

The Who (Remixed)

Watching The Who play during the Super Bowl XLIV halftime show inspired me to do two things.

1 – Play Rockband again.
2 – Share a song with you.

Hydle – Baba O’Riley – The Who Tribute Remix
Hydle – The White Stripes – Seven Nation Army

This track is from 2002. I gave my brother a shanky computer (it was beige) and he went to town with a free single track sound editor called Amadeus – which has since been developed on.

What still amazing me to this day… is how my brother was able to figure out how to time out and create these effects (using paste over!) and beats to rearrange and remix this famous song into how he always imagined it should have been.

I simply wish Jeremy Hydle was still playing with music. Genius.

Enjoy Cuz.

Team Visa

Olympics in the Air. Facebook caught my attention and I have consumed this years Visa Go World campaign.

It is nice to see long time friend Ryan St. Onge getting some media play around the the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games.

Paralympic Sledge Hockey Player – Alexi Salamone
Alpine Skier – Julia Mancuso
Snowboard Cross – Lindsey Jacobellis
Ice Hockey – Angela Ruggiero
Freestyle Aerials – Ryan St. Onge

Two things to note about this campaign.
1 – It’s women driven.
2 – Focuses on a paralympic athlete.

Both of which should seamlessly be woven into every major ad campaign revolving the olympics and such a major sponsor.

Go Visa. Go Ryan. Go World.

Happy To Be Alive Today

Something I tell myself every day since the breaks went out in my car on after a lovely day of skiing in Aspen on January 29th, 2010…

“I’m happy to be alive today.”

This advertisement doesn’t need supporting web material. Take something as basic as wearing your seatbelt and present it in new visually inspiring way… Daniel Cox – simply Genius.

Thanks for sharing this emotional moment through visuals MattMatt.

Bud Light – Clothing Drive

[YouTubeUlar] <— 355,326 (repost on 4/7/13) Swear Jar meets Clothing Drive. I’m not a fan of Bud Light as a consumable beverage, but I am a fan of how much money Bundweiser spends on marketing. Especially on internets only releases.

This commercial I do not believe is unique enough or cut well enough to make me a believer. Some good ideas and scenes, but just a little too long for my liking.

However uniquely similar to Swear Jar… should have made this one a minute too.

Not Genius.

Workout Today

It is now February of 2010. New Years is over – so I guess it’s finally time to get back into shape. Todays workout comes from BodyRock.tv

Zuzana is ripped… and provides incentive. Skip the drama and jump to 3:30 to start. Might want to watch it a few times to figure out what the hell she is doing… or of course you can read about how to do it.

It takes only 20 minutes… and I have a numbers document created to track this specific workout. If you want it… tell me.

Good luck Ted.

Warren Miller receives Lifetime Achievement Award

January 30th, 2010

Warren Miller saves a rough start to Powder magazine’s 2010 video awards in Aspen, CO.

Warren’s concept of relating skiing to freedom has been around since the 50s – and here we are 60 years later finally soaking it in.

Working with Warren over the last year was truly an inspiring and life changing project for me. If you have yet to see Level 1 Productions 10th film – Refresh – Stop by the house and enjoy a beer along with your very own personal screening.

Little guy Level 1 was nominated for 6 awards. But following traditional patterns when dealing with large sponsor based awards ceremonies… Refresh didn’t walk with any.

Warren… I can’t wait to read the autobiography and pick up a copy of your new golf cartoon book. How long until it hits the shelf?
