Goodbye Father

20120611-100412.jpg

Hydle update — Yes, it is true… My father Les Hydle was put to rest last night, Sunday June 10th, 2012 at 10:00pm after suffering traumatic injuries from a motorcycle crash only 2 blocks from my home. He was not at fault in this accident … A driver turned left directly in front of him as he was leaving my neighborhood following a heartfelt visit to show me his newly purchased 2008 Yamaha Venture. This bike was his dream.

I was fortunate to have the opportunity of spending the last waking hour of my fathers life showing him adventures and telling him stories from incredible projects I have recently worked on. I made him sit and listen to music… the way he used to make me when I was a kid. He loved music – and he loved the music I was sharing with him. Our final moment will never be forgotten.

I can not say enough to all the support I have received from all my friends and family. Every visit, note, message, gift, thought and prayer has been felt and my family and I thank you.

I love you dad. And thank you for giving me the opportunity to watch you rev your engine one last time, and ride off on your new dream.

Tony Fadell – What is the source of your creativity?

[Vimeo] <— 5,786 I was lucky enough to meet Tony Fadell in 2002 at Apples World Wide Developers Conference. He was a busy guy... but we connected for a brief conversation about awesomeness. He went on to create some of the most amazing gidgets and gadgets we carry in our pockets at Apple and is now working on an automagically self programming thermostat that you just want to hold.

Cheers to 99% for standing him up and asking some decent questions.

Ken Block – Gymkhana Infographic

Not a common post from me – but DC actually reached out to blog owners and intermanets related peeps like myself to share this content.

AKA – I didn’t have to find it.

Now if only they were nice enough to provide direct links to their entire YouTubeUlar series of videos – duh.

HYDLE – TSOIGDH

In the history of HYDLE.com… this ridiculous “TSOIGDH” entry marks my 999th public blog post since May of 2009 – When I started this crazy world of blogging ideas, thoughts and Genius vs. Not Genius intermanents and social media successes or failures.

So for the sake of getting google credit for it…

“TSOIGDH” = TURNING SHIT ON IT’S GOD DAMN HEAD

Turning shit on it’s god damn head is going to be my 1 single inspiration for the next 999 blogpost entries. I can’t wait to open up my connection layer for all my loyal readers… so I can start finding out who you actually are.

Cheers to 999!

“This is our first jump together. It is also JT’s first ski BASE jump since that tragic day, March 26, 2009—a date which will live in infamy—when JT survives a ski BASE flight in the Italian Dolomites, but his good friend, wingman, and one of my mentors, Shane McConkey, does not.”

TED – David Blaine – Breaking Records

[YouTubeUlar] <— 1,235,349 If you ask David Blaine what magic means to him - he may answer you with this...

“It’s practice, it’s training and experimenting. While pushing through the pain to be the best that I can be.”

But he is going to take 20 of your minutes and travel through several amazing stories describing how he accomplished holding his breath for 17 minutes and 4 seconds before he gets there.

Amazing.

Seth Godin – What are you leaving behind?

Subscribe to the good words of Seth Godin

I love watching contrails, those streams of white frozen exhaust that jets leave behind. It's a temporary track in the sand, and then the sun melts them and they're gone.

Go to Montana and you might see the tracks dinosaurs left a bazillion years ago. Same sort of travel, very different half-life of their passage.

All day long you're emailing or tweeting or liking or meeting… and every once in a while, something tangible is produced. But is there a mark of your passage? Fifty years later, we might hear a demo tape or an outtake of something a musician scratched together while making an album. Often, though, there's no trace.

I'm fascinated by blogs like this one, which are basically public notes and coffee breaks by a brilliant designer in between her 'real' work. Unlike tweets, which vanish, Tina's posts are here for a long time and much easier to share and bookmark. Her trail becomes useful not just to her, but to everyone who is interested.

What would happen if you took ten minutes of coffeebreak downtime every day and produced an online artifact instead? What if your collected thoughts about your industry became an ebook or a series of useful instructions or pages or videos?

What if we all did that?

Machine Gunner Alan Samuel – Phantom Friday

[YouTubeUlar] <— 23 I just learned we kind of have access to a Phantom camera. It's exciting to think about what you would like to shoot at 1 million frames per second - Machine guns are definitely on that list. If you would like to setup a personal Machine Gun Tour similar to this one. Don’t hesitate to contact Alan Samuel directly in the network section.

John Lynch – ABROAD

Todays “sit down and watch” video is brought to you buy a traveling friend Katie Hilborn. While Katie is traveling and rocking out Phuket she is also sharing solid work from her friends.

Discussing the message of his new film, John Lynch states,

“It’s about how meeting fellow travelers can open up your world. I hope this movie encourages others to get off the tourist trail, throw away their itineraries, and get involved with something out of their comfort zone; stepping in to make a difference is much more rewarding than just being an observant tourist.”

On a personal level, he found satisfaction in the fact that he “did not just find a story to tell, but lived a story worth telling.”
